Does 2021 Ram 3500 Short Bed with OEM Rail Kit Need Slider Hitch

Question:

I am looking for the best fifth wheel hitch for my 2021 Ram 3500 SRW MegaCab with the HO Cummins and a 65inch bed. Because my truck has a somewhat lower payload capacity 3,775 pounds I am concerned that the heavier weights of the slider hitches might reduce my ability to tow a trailer with a 14,000 pound GVW. Do I really need a slider hitch or can I get by with a fixed hitch given that many newer fifth wheel campers have tapered fronts? I have also seen posts in forums where people said sliders have damaged their trucks because they moved the pin box further back where it no longer cleared the tailgate. I would really prefer a hitch that is most of all safe and reliable, but also one that is not overly heavy and can me somewhat easily removed, as I use my truck for other duties beside towing a fifth wheel. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Since most newer fifth wheels have tapered noses to allow for better short bed turning clearance and the short bed of your 2021 Ram 3500 is on the longer side you would not need a slider hitch.

So for a somewhat lighter weight fifth wheel hitch that fits the OEM prep package of your 2021 Ram 3500 long bed I would recommend the Curt A20 part # C16044 which weighs 190 lbs. Most are well over 200 so this would be on the lighter end, is very safe, has a very tight jaw design so the ride quality will be quiet and smooth, and has easy to use handles for install/removal.
