Cargo Carrier For 2011 Honda Civic With Class l Hitch

Question:

What cargo carrier can I use on a 2011 Honda civic class 1 trailer hitch with a 1 1/4 inch receiver with 2 tow balls available. Looking for a enclosed or open folding carrier. If no enclosed carrier, would like enclosed bag for items placed on carrier. Thank you,

I did some research online for your 2011 Honda Civic, and found that the recommended tongue weight capacity per the owners manual is 100 lbs. This weight capacity would include the weight of the carrier and any cargo you plan to put on the carrier.

We do not carry any Class l cargo carriers that have the folding feature. We do offer a few fixed carriers that may work for you. Due to your Civic using a Class l hitch, we do not carry any enclosed hitch mounted carriers that would work for your car.

We carry a cargo carrier that may work for you. It is the 20x48 Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18140. This carrier weighs 42 lbs, so your cargo would be substantially limited. This cargo carrier has a rise of 3-1/4 inches on the shank which should clear the exhaust on your vehicle. The distance from the vehicle can also be adjusted so there will be more clearance from the rear of the Civic.

Another carrier I recommend is the Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18145. This carrier weighs just 29 lbs, and is a 17 inch by 46 inch carrier. I have attached a link to a video showing this carrier on a Honda Civic. When installed, this carrier is 7 inches from the exhaust of your Civic, which would cause problems with a cargo bag on the cargo carrier being too close.

I recommend the etrailer Cargo Bag, part # e98990. This bag measures 40 inches by 20 inches by 20 inches, and has a capacity of 9 cubic feet. It also has six straps which provides added security.
