Recommended Base Plate Kit Set Up For A 2022 GMC Canyon AT4
Question:
I just purchased a 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 and am interested in flat towing it with my motorhome. I was looking at the Roadmaster Direct Connect Base Plate # RM37VR will this work for me? I need everything I am brand new to this.

After doing some research I found out that The Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM37VR will in fact work with your 2022 GMC Canyon AT4. When choosing the correct Tow Bar The Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain # RM-676 will connect perfectly with The Roadmaster Base Plate # RM37VR. I like this tow bar over the others because it has a non-binding design that allows you to release your vehicle at any time, anywhere even on unlevel ground. The safety cables come included with the tow bar.
To complete your flat-tow setup you will also need the wiring and a supplemental braking system. I recommend The Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-152-1676-7 over the other harnesses it has included diodes that will help prevent electrical feedback that could cause damage to your Canyon's electrical system. Since the battery needs to be disconnected you can install the Roadmaster Automatic Battery Disconnect with Switch for Towed Vehicle w/ Supplemental Braking System # RM-766 to make disconnecting and reconnecting the battery as simple as flipping a switch instead of having to get under the hood and physically removing the negative battery cable. Note: This disconnect switch is not compatible with diesel vehicles or vehicles with dual batteries.
For the supplemental braking system I recommend The Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency, Portable Braking System # BLU37TR because it is easy to install and reinstall whenever you need it. You will also need The 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332 for it to work properly.
Lastly you will need a high low adapter to level your Roadmaster Tow Bar when in use. To find the correct one you will first need to measure from the ground to the center of the trailer hitch receiver on your towed vehicle, and then from the ground to the center of the base plate tabs on your towed vehicle. The difference between these measurements will give you the correct amount of rise/drop that you will need. It is recommended that from the ground to the center of the base plate is 3 inches from the ground to the center of your trailer hitch receiver. The Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-048-4 has a 4 inch rise/drop.
Finally I recommend that you check the flat towing section of your vehicle's manual to see if there are any restrictions or special instructions required to get your vehicle ready to be flat towed.
I attached an installation video link below of the Roadmaster base plate kit being installed onto a Chevrolet Colorado. The installation will be different for your 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 but will have some similar installation points. If you have any further questions please reach back out to me and I will be more than happy to further assist you in your towing endeavors.
