How to Wire Trailer 7-Way Connector

Question:

My 1997 Logan bp trailer has a 6 pin plug that I use a 7-pin adapter with a center pin auxiliary adapter for my 2000 ford. I dont have a blue wire and so am not sure what wiring diagram to follow. My wire colors are red, black, brown, white, yellow and green. and my brakes are locking up after replacing my plug. Can you send me a diagram?

It sounds like you're using a 6-Way to 7-Way Adapter like part # 47549 and you're needing to change out the wiring so the brakes don't lock up.

What I recommend doing is reconfiguring the wiring to make sure your truck and trailer wiring matches the industry standard. This will not only make everything work on your end, but it also ensures that your truck will work with other trailers, and your trailer will work with other trucks.

I'm attaching a photo as well as a helpful article on wiring trailer 7-Way connectors for you to check out. The most important thing for you to remember is that you'll be connecting the wires per function instead of per color. If everyone used the same color wires for everything this would be much easier and I could just tell you what you have but since this isn't always the case it's best if you apply 12V power to each pin on your trailer to know what wire does what and then use a circuit tester on your truck connector to see what wires match the functions of the trailer.

I hope you find this helpful!
