Recommended 17.5" Tire/Wheel Combo to Upgrade form 16" Wheel Setup

Question:

I have a customer that wants to switch from 16 inch wheels on his trailer to 17.5 inch. I know that it takes the pressure lugs with the flange so I’m curious about the hub size? I see that the wheels are 4.76 hub size . I’m curious if all eight lug trailers have a 4.75 hub?

Yes, 4.75" is standard for a hub with an 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern.

Instead of switching out the wheels to ones that use flat bolts, which means you'll have to swap out the hubs as well, I recommend using a tire/wheel combo that uses flange nuts instead so you all can keep using the same hub setup.

For your application I recommend checking out the Westlake 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w 17-1/2" Lynx Aluminum Wheel # LHAS701. This is a Load Range J (4,805 lbs at 123 psi) and comes with a speed rating of 75 mph. The tire is 8.3" wide with an overall diameter of 30.2" so just be sure to maintain at least 2" of clearance between the tires and the trailer frame for a tandem axle setup, as well as about 4" of clearance above the tires to the trailer frame or fender to account for suspension flex over bumps.

As long as you have the clearance mentioned above you're good to go with this kit!

Attached is a review video for you to check out.
