Replacement Landing Gear Leg Options For a 2008 Keystone Montana With Legs Not Moving Under Load

Question:

I replaced the bevel gears in the lead leg on my 2008 Keystone Montana. I manually cranked the lead leg down to the same level as the follow leg. I then lowered the jack holding the trailer weight and the hydraulic unit would not raise or lower the landing gear. The hydraulic unit wanted to turn the shaft, but something was not letting that happen. They appeared to be jammed for some reason. A pin was stripped. I now have to remove the lead leg again and open it back up. Is there a problem with the screw jack inside the landing gear? I lowered it manually and it seemed fine. Only when I hooked up the hydraulic unit and put weight on the leg it did not work.

It is possible the screw inside the Lead Leg # LC178653 on your 2008 Keystone Montana may be grooved in such a way that when weight is applied it creates to much resistance for the motor to turn the jacks. We do also carry the Follow Leg # LC178652 if you want to replace them both.

If you are thinking about replacing the jacks I recommend upgrading to the Ultra-Fab Deluxe Electric Landing Gear Set # UF17-943010. These each have their own motor which will allow you to operate the jacks individually on uneven ground. These jacks have a combined capacity of 12,000lbs which is much higher than your current landing gear. This would also eliminate any issue with the hydraulic unit not having enough power to raise/lower the jacks.
