How To Get More Bedside Clearance When Towing a 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

I have a stock trailer and only have 3inch clearance from top of bed to the trailer. Rule of thumb is I need at lease 6inch what do you have to get me to that height?

In order to increase the bedside clearance of a truck towing a fifth wheel trailer you have a few options. I first recommend raising the hitch head height of the fifth wheel hitch. If this causes the trailer to sit nose high then you'd need to lift the trailer with a lift kit, the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit part # RR23QX. If the hitch head height is already maxed out you'd need to replace the hitch with one that offers more lift, the Demco Recon 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch part # DM8550043 for example offers up to 18" of hitch head height.

In some cases, you can also adjust the pin box height inside the brackets on the trailer frame so that is another possible option to purse.
