Replacement Switch For Electric Landing Gear on 5th Wheel Trailer

Question:

Hi, I want to replace the landing gear switch that came with my fifth wheel, a 2008 Keystone Cougar 276RLS. Is the Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear, Item # LG-145236 the correct replacement part? The original switch has 6 pins, with 5 of the pins connected to wires. 2 are battery, 2 are motor and one is ground. I looked at the Item # LG-145236 wiring diagram and I believe it only has 4 pins. The 4 pins are from the motor and battery. If I need a ground, how do I set up the ground that came off the original switch? If it turns out I need to replace the landing gear assembly, what is the replacement part number for my fifth wheel? Thanks

The Replacement Switch for Stromberg Carlson Electric Landing Gear # LG-145236 will work with Stromberg Carlson models LG-1, LG-2, LG-3, and LG-4 as well as most electric landing gear sets, including Atwood, Venture, and Lippert models. So this is likely the correct option as that covers the majority of the landing gear options for your 5th wheel. The reason that you only have 4 wires for the new switch is that the ground is done through the black wire that runs to the negative battery terminal.

More than likely you will no longer need your current ground. As long as the ground is just running to the trailer frame or ground source, you will not need it. If the ground is running to another part, please let me know what it is running to and we can take a look at if it is needed.
