Best Wheels For Saltwater on Boat Trailer

Question:

I am interested in 4 14inch Boat trailer wheels I have seen where the salt gets under the clear Coat on aluminum wheels. I would like Black, if you have a wheel that will hold up for at least 5 years or more. what is the best wheel for saltwater?

The best wheels for saltwater are going to be aluminum wheels because they do not rust. I would not recommend using a steel wheel like the # AM20315 you were looking at. It might hold up if you meticulously rinsed it with fresh water and made sure to spray over/repair any scratches in the powder coat, but it is still unlikely. That would also be a lot of additional work.

The Aluminum Sendel Series # AM25DR would be a good option for black. However, there aren't any completely black options for aluminum wheels. If you would like to stick with wheels like what you have now the # AM22327 is also available.

Regarding salt getting under the clear coat, if you see the clear coat beginning to peel I would remove it. Once removed you can reapply the clear coat to keep the wheel protected.
