Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for a 2004 GMC Sierra 3500 Long Bed
Question:
Hi. We have a 2004 GMC 3500 SRW extended cab long bed diesel. We want to go full time with the largest but safest 5th wheel We can tow. Sticker says 15,500 towing capacity total. Pin weight of 2k. Can you help with what type of hitch would be a good choice for us? Trying to figure out what the max pin weight we should go to be comfortable towing as well as living. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for all the information! I highly recommend the B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch item # BWRVK3255. This hitch has an 18,000 lbs capacity and can handle up to a 4,500 lbs pin weight. This hitch will allow you to get the full capacity and ability out of your Sierra but you won't want to exceed your trucks limits.
The Patriot has 3/4" thick dual jaws that provide a superior 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. This gives you a more secure and comfortable towing experience. This hitch has four height settings from 16" - 19" to fit your application.
To attach this hitch to your 2004 GMC Sierra 3500 you will need to use the B&W Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails item # BWRVK2500. These custom-fit brackets mount to existing holes in your Silverado's frame.
To make towing with a 5th wheel easier I recommend adding the Curt 5th Wheel/Gooseneck Custom Wiring Harness w/ 7-Pole Connector - 10' Long item # C56000. This harness puts a 7-way connector in the bed of your truck and allows you to keep the one on your bumper. This makes hooking up to your 5th wheel trailer easier and more convenient.
I have linked a couple of installation and review videos below for you to take a look at.
