Troubleshooting P3 Brake Controller Manual Override Brake Lever Causing Circuit Breaker To Pop
Question:
I have received great service from Etrailer and Im hoping you can help. I bought a P3 brake controller and had it professionally installed on our 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, We tow a 3500 lb TT. I took it for a test ride and everything worked perfectly until I tested the override. When O mover the override lever a little past half way, the new 20 amp circuit breaker popped and kept popping until I unplugged the controller. Now each time I plug it back in it continues to pop the breaker. I have received great service from Etrailer and Im hoping you can help.

Since your Prodigy P3 # 90195 is popping your circuit breaker when the manual override lever is used could mean there is a few things that could be wrong. First I recommend checking for a bad ground connection. First check if the ground connections are bare metal to metal at the controller as well as the 7-way and also make sure you 20 amp circuit breaker is properly grounded.
If everything checks out there I would cut the blue brake output wire 6 inches behind the P3 controller. Use The Circuit Tester # PTW2993 on the cut blue wire and test the manual override slide. If the slide works then you would need to run a new wire # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) from the location to your 7-way connector. If your circuit breaker continues to pop when the manual override lever is used you would need to replace the P3 controller.
