What are the Crossbar Spread Limitations for Rhino-Rack SX Roof Rack on a 2006 Subaru Forester
Question:
Subaru forester 2006 flush factory rails Fitting instructions very specific about position and spread between bars, why? Spread between bars is advised as 800mm. Why? What is the maximum spread between load bars? Surely this is limited only by length of factory rails?

Helpful Expert Reply:
The crossbar spread range listed in the installation instructions is just a recommended crossbar spread. If you needed to space the crossbars closer or further apart, you can. Most roof mounted accessories require crossbar spreads between 23 inches and 32 inches, however, you can move the crossbars to any spread as long as the crossbars stay attached to the factory side rails on your Forester. As you said, the maximum spread between the crossbars is only limited by the space available on the factory side rails.
