Converter Upgrade For a Magnetek 6332 to Charge Batteries Faster

Question:

I currently have a Magnatek 6332 converter that I am looking to upgrade. Our trailer has a solar system that works fine, as long as there is enough sun. Some of the places we stay are in shade. so we use a Honda EU1000 generator to power the converter for battery charging. The current converter takes too long to charge the system, so I am looking at the PD4635V with the optional remote pendant. Progressive Dynamics has a page on modifying the pendant for use with the 4600 series. Do you see any problems with these applications as a replacement?

The Replacement Converter for Parallax/Magnetek or WFCO RV Power Centers # PD4635V is 35 amp. This is going to be slightly more than the 32 amp you are currently getting from your Magnetek 6332. But it is not going to charge your batteries noticeably faster.

To make an impact on the charge speed, you would need to go up to a 60amp converter like the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger # PD9160A. But this is still not going to make a dramatic change to the charge speed, these are not designed to quickly recharge batteries.

We would default to the manufacturer for modifying the Converter Status Remote Pendant # PD92201.

If your battery bank is depleting too quickly for the converter to keep up, your best option would be to add another battery to your battery bank.
