How to Add a 7-Way Connector to a 2012 Jeep Liberty

Question:

Good evening, I’m reaching out for information on how to wire a seven flat onto my Jeep liberty. It does not have any factory wiring. I have installed the product you have for the four pin. It is the kit that uses T connectors on the tail lights with a relay running from the battery to the back. I recently picked up a pop-up camper and I’m looking to have power using the seven way switch. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Since your 2012 Jeep Liberty has a 4-flat connector you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket.

This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on your Jeep's battery. The white wire is your ground and you will need to securely attach it to a rust and paint free source of metal. The yellow wire will connect to your Jeep's reverse circuit.

This kit will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's accessory. I have linked an installation video below that will help you see the steps I have explained.

If your pop-up camper has brakes you will need a brake controller to operate them. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 item # 90195.
