Which Pin of 7-Way Tells Truck that Trailer is Connected
Question:
Does a 2014 Ford F-150 supply power to its factory-installed seven-pin plug even when a trailer is not connected? What causes a 2014 F-150 to recognize a trailer is connected?

Yes the 12 volt accessory circuit of the 7-way on a 2014 Ford F-150 would be active all the time but this isn't the circuit that tells you when a trailer is connected. That circuit is the brake output circuit. This circuit puts out an intermittent pulse of current and if it detects the load of trailer brake magnets it will let you know that a trailer is connected.
