Can RV Have Second Air Conditioner Unit be Added to It

Question:

Just curious if its possible to add a 2nd AC to an RV? When we bought our 2020 Outback 300ML 2 1/2 years ago, we bought it with only one 15k AC unit thinking it was just fine since our 2018 Outback 293UBH had a single 13.5k unit and cooled more than good! We were wrong. Looking for a recommendation and to know how difficult the install is?

Adding a second AC unit to an RV is definitely possible. This is a pretty common install that's done as a lot of people (including my parents) find that a single AC unit just isn't quite enough. AC units require a 14 inch square cut out in the roof of the RV which you may already have for use with a roof vent but if not could cut a hole as needed.

You could use the Advent Air system part # ACM135CH which comes with a lower vent assembly, a start capacitor to make power usage on start up easier, and a heat strip. This would work great as a second unit. This is a ductless design which means it's designed to blow it's air out of the lower vent assembly and not through a duct system in your RV. This is the type of setup needed when adding a system to an RV that doesn't have one currently.
