Your 2006 Ford Ranger is not pre-wired to connect a brake controller, however it can be done with the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 that you referenced.
I have attached a video that shows the installation of the # ETBC7 that you referenced with a Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 in a 2008 Ford Ranger.
The videos will take you step by step from the beginning with the harness installation to the end with the brake controller.
