Universal 7-Way Connector that is Compatible w/ a Hardwired Brake Controller
Question:
Hello! Im getting parts ready for a 22 outback premium. I will be using the t one connection kit for the 4pole connector. I own a redarc tow pro elite with universal hardware connections. I previously used the part # ETBC7L in an old car to to use a curt echo controller. When I sold that car, I chose not to keep the echo controller. I didnt find it very reliable so I chose to use a hardwired one now. Is this upgrade kit compatible with my redarc? If so, do I still wire the 7pin power to the battery terminal? How does the redarc get power? Would it also need a fuse off the battery? Or would this be something done under the dash? I understand that the blue from the controller goes to the blue on the 7pin kit... But is anything else shared? I may have a shop handle most of the wiring, but Id like to understand what needs to be done, and be sure I order all the correct parts.

I would be happy to help you. Sorry to hear you didn't like the Curt Echo item # C51180. The Redarc Tow Pro Elite item # RED44FR is a great brake controller and my personal go to for its clean post installation look and reliability. There isn't a plug in adapter so you will need to hardwire it into your Subaru.
You will not be able to use the item # ETBC7L with the RedArc or any hardwired controller. It does not have the blue brake controller wire that you will need to send signals from your controller to your 7-way connector. Instead, you will want the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires item # ETBC7.
The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Subaru with an included bracket identical to the item # ETBC7L. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on the vehicle's battery, the white wire to ground, and the yellow wire to vehicle's reverse circuit if applicable. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's accessory lights. This kit includes three heavy-duty circuit breakers the 40 amp will go on the power wire to the battery. I hope this sufficiently answers all of your technical questions. Feel free to email me directly if you have anymore.
I have linked an installation video below that we did on an older Outback. The installation process will be identical as this is a universal harness.
