How To Determine The Correct Replacement Axle For Homemade Mobile Home Axles
Question:
I have a homemade trailer with the old style mobile home axles. The ones that use the thru bolt and wedge to secure the rim to the axle. The backer plate is welded to the axle. I have tried all the mobile home parts places here and google searched. No luck. Do you have any shoes that can be made to fit my application or where can I get my shoes relined ? Thanks in advance. I can send a photo if necessary.

When it comes to mobile home axles, your best bet is going to be a whole new axle, as you have already discovered replacement parts are scarce, and these axles typically have odd bearings in which you wouldn't be able to find the proper hubs for your brakes.
I know it's not something what you are wanting to do, however if you are able to provide me with a couple measurements I'd be happy to find a replacement axle.
In order to determine what you're going to be needing, I'm going to need to know the capacity of your current axle, as well as the spring center to spring center measurement, and the hub face to hub face measurement (shown below).
For instance, the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with EZ-Lube Spindles # T3584F-EZ-8974 has a 3,500-lb weight capacity, and has a hub-face-to-hub-face measurement of 89", and has a spring center to spring center measurement of 74".
