7-Way Connector and Trailer Hitch for a 2015 Passat TDI
Question:
I have a 2015 Passat TDI that I want to install a hitch and 7 round connector plug that also controls a Tekonsha P3 brake controller. I only see 4 flat connectors. Is there a way to make the connection at the rear and also install the pig tail for the controller in the front?

Yes, there is a way to add a 7-way connector to your 2015 Volkswagen Passat. You will want the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. You will then need to run a power line to your battery and the requested brake controller wire for the P3 item # 90195. All wires and relays come with this kit.
If you do not already have a hitch for your VW, I recommend the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver item # 306-X7317. This is the only hitch available for the TDI model that has a 2" receiver.
For a 4-flat connector you will want the Tekonsha item # 118646. Tekonsha makes the most reliable wiring harnesses in the towing business.
To round out your towing setup I recommend the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches item # C45534. This towing kit will provide you with a 2" ball and a fixed ball mount with a 3/4" rise and 2" drop. It also includes a hitch pin and clip, hitch receiver lock with keys, hitch cover, and a storage case.
