Rhino-Rack Steel Cargo Basket Differences, Are They Compatible With Yakima Spare Tire Carrier Basket

Question:

Hello. I’m trying to decide between the Rhino Rack large basket model RMCB02 and the Rhine Rack Xtray Pro model RRRMCB03. From what I can see, they are roughly the same size, both have the same weight capacity, and the Xtray Pro just has the axel mounts for 2 bikes. So, why is the large basket RMCB02 approximately $170 more expensive? I also plan to install a Yakima spare tire carrier model Y07076. I saw in the FAQ’s that this Mount should fit just about all roof baskets, but are there any concerns with eith of these baskets that you are aware of? Thanks for you help!

I am looking online at the two Rhino-Rack rooftop cargo baskets you are referencing in your question:

Rhino-Rack Roof Mounted Steel Cargo Basket - 57" Long x 42" Wide - 165 lbs, part # RMCB02
Rhino-Rack XTray Pro Cargo Basket and 2 Bike Carrier - Steel - 58-1/4" x 41" - 165 lbs, part # RRRMCB03

The only difference between the two rooftop cargo baskets is the XTray comes with the fork mounts, installed in the basket, and wheel straps.

With regards to using the Spare Tire Carrier for Yakima Roof Cargo Baskets - Lockable, part # Y07076, on either of these Rhino-Rack rooftop cargo baskets, the Yakima Spare Tire Carrier is designed for the spacing on a Yakima rooftop cargo basket. I compared the mounting bracket to the Rhino-Rack rooftop cargo baskets and they are not compatible. You could possibly alter it to make it work by drilling new holes, but doing so would void the warranty.

I have included product description links and video review links below.
