With your Curt Spectrum Trailer Brake Controller # C51170 having an intermittent issue it sounds like it is a wiring connector. I recommend checking the connectors for the brake controller in your vehicle for any signs of oxidation or corrosion. You can place some Dielectric Grease # 11755 on the connectors to protect the connectors. After you check these connectors move to the 7-way on your vehicle and check it and its connector. You are also looking for any connections that may appear to be damaged or bent. If you see any signs of damage or burns you will want to have those parts replaced.
