How To Switch From Electric Drum Brakes To EOH Disc Brakes For 10k General Duty Dexter Axles

Hello i was needing some help on finding the rite part i need. I was looking at your K2R1058D11HD disc brake kit for dexter axles Im just not 100 percent its what i need. How can i distinguish which axles i have without them having a tag. I know for sure theyre dexter 10k general duty with electric magnetic drum brakes, they do use the smaller 3.5 inch oil cap if that helps.

Since we don't know for sure what you axle is I do recommend first contacting Dexter and to try and confirm exactly what kind of axle you have. If you haven't really looked at them I do recommend getting under the trailer and trying to find a tag because it will make this process much easier.

Assuming you have Dexter 10k general duty axles there will be two choices depending on the hub:

Option 1: Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D11HD, which uses the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-288-3UC1 (16" - 17-1/2" wheels).

Option 2: Kodiak Disc Brake Kit # K2R1058D11E, which uses the Dexter Axle Oil Hub # 008-430-03 (16" wheels).

You can try to match your current hubs up to either of these hubs to hopefully avoid having to purchase new hubs and get the correct fit for the disc brake kit.

Since you're switching from electric to hydraulic brakes you'll also need an electric over hydraulic actuator like part # K71-651 and some brake lines like part # 18SI-BLKIT. The brake line kit will need to be determined based on how many axles you plan on putting brakes on and then length from the actuator to the axels. If you need help determining the correct kit just let me know how many axles will be getting disc brakes and the length you'll need.

The last thing you'll need to check is whether or not your brake controller is compatible with electric over hydraulic brakes. If not you can use one like the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller # RED24FR.
