Recommended Components For Installing Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # BCDC1225D

Question:

Your site has several answers that note DC-DC charge controllers like a Redarc BCDC to better, safer and faster charge an auxiliary battery in a camper/trailer. Assuming a 25A to 50A draw from the starter battery in the towing vehicle, what do you generally recommend? 1 Installing additional wiring, fuses, connectors to connect the starter battery to the camper/trailer or, 2 Upgrading existing wiring, fuses and connectors. For example, what camper/trailer connectors that carry auxiliary power can handle 50A loads? What about relays? Thanks!

To make installation easier we have the Trailer Installation Kit # e79ZR that will allow you to properly have the wiring and parts needed for installing the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D. The wiring includes two 3 gauge wires 24' long for the vehicle side and 9' long for the trailer side. As the wiring is not crimped you will be able to cut the wire to the correct length for your application. The 7-way connectors are not capable of being able to take the amperage and will not be able to allow for upgrading the factory style connector.

The Universal Mounting Bracket # RED53FR is great to provide a stainless mount and allowing for an air gap around the charger for better cooling.
