Troubleshooting a New 4-Way Install on an Old Boat Trailer

Question:

I put new 4 point wiring white, brown, yellow, green - Flat Plug harness on my old boat trailer, cause most of the wires were worn through. I used my volt/ohm meter to check the plug and each wire separate. T he problem is I now have a good ground to the trailer reading is 0, but when I check the brown wire, it reads the same. Is it possible the plug end might be bad? What else might I try before plugging it into my vehicle and blowing a fuse.

What I would do is run a jumper wire from a vehicle battery to each of the circuits of the 4-way you just installed to see if all of the light functions are working.

I would just attach the ground strap of the 4-way to the negative side of a battery and then run a jumper wire from the positive side of the battery to each of the other posts to see if the correct lighting function comes on. If everything seems to work fine you should be good to go.

I attached an FAQ article on trailer wiring for you to check out also.
