Can 4,000 lb Leaf Springs be Flipped to Sit on Top of Axle

Question:

The center bolt on some leaf springs I just received have the nut on the bottom. Can I flip them so the round part fits in the hole of my axle? If so, what is the torque spec and the best method for gripping the round fastener head? I have the 4000 lb 4 leaf springs. Thank you!

Yes, you can flip the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles # e22YR so they are on top of your axle. You'll need an over/under conversion kit, though the nut on the bottom won't fit in the hole of your axle, it'll fit in the spring seat of the conversion kit. The correct kit will depend on what diameter your axle is (though it is likely 2-3/8" you'll want to verify this):

- 2-3/8" Diameter Axle: Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-384-00

- 3" Diameter Axle: Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00

The center bolt won't get torqued but the new U-bolts will, and I have attached links below to both the instructions (which have the torque specs) and an installation video which detail the entire process.
