Recommended Tow Package and Brake Controller for 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Question:

Hello! I just purchased a 2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid. I saw on another post you recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT22MR, which I have in my cart now. My question is on the wiring harness. My camper has a 7 pin plug. It has an electric tongue jack and I plan to install trailer brakes at some point. Is there a 7 prong option for the Tucson wiring harness? Or do I need to purchase a 4 prong and adapter? And what is needed to install trailer brake connection? What would you recommend?

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame # DT22MR is a great hitch for your 2022 Hyundai Tucson!

For wiring we'll need to start off with the T-One # CU94FR which gets us the basic trailer light functions. To add the rest of the functions needed for a brake controller we need an adapter like you mentioned. The correct one just depends on what kind of brake controller you're wanting to use.

For a standard brake controller like the Prodigy P3 # 90195 you'll need the Wiring Harness # ETBC7 but if you're wanting something like the wireless Curt Echo # C51180 then you'll need the Wiring Harness # ETBC7L. The wiring for the ETBC7 will require more hardwiring and you'll need to route the wires inside your cab while the wiring for the ETBC7L will just require a power wire to be ran to the battery on your Tucson so this method is a much easier installation.

So not only is the wiring installation for the Curt Echo much easier but this controller is adjusted via an app on your phone so you don't have a brick installed near your knees - the controller plugs into the 7-Way at the back of your vehicle and is powered that way.
