Troubleshooting Trailer Tires Getting Broken Belts On 14,000 GVWR Trailer

Question:

I seem to have the same problem over and over. I have a 14000lb trailer with 8 lug wheels st 235/80r16 tires load range f and about 16 to 18 months I end up with a bouncing trailer due to broken belts. Is this the correct tire. My load about 10k. I put 4 new tires on 13 months ago and already have another broke belt.

With the Karrier ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10501 with the load range F and 3,960lbs capacity per tire you are likely breaking belts from the bouncing created by the tires being to stiff. The tires being rated for more than your trailer will cause the trailer to bounce more creating more stress on the tires. As most trailers do not have any shock absorbers all the shock is absorbed by the tires.

You may see an improvement by going to the load rand E Karrier ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10248 but for the best improvement adding some jounce springs will help reduce and soften trailer bounce. We have the SumoSprings Trailer Helper Springs for Overslung # SS26MV and Underslung # SS33HR suspension systems. Be sure to get one set per axle. These not only help to absorb road shock but will also help stabilize your trailer under heavy loads.
