Can A 2006 Volkswagen Jetta Manual 6-Speed Be Flat Towed?
Question:
I see in the earlier question that the 2010 6 speed Jetta could not be flat towed. Can my 2006 -manual transmission 4 cylinders be flat towed with the Blue Ox base plate and tow bar?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Yes, your 2006 Volkswagen Jetta manual transmission can be flat towed. I went ahead and verified with your owner's manual, and all of the "do not's" had to do with the automatic transmission models.
In light of this news, you are going to need a base plate kit, tow bars, a lighting harness, a braking system, and safety cables.
You did mention the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX3823, and good news it'll work great!
For a set of tow bars, the Roadmster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bars For Blue Ox Base Plates # RM-676 will work fantastic with your base plate, and also includes the 7-way to 6-way wiring adapter, as well as a set of safety cables.
For a braking system, I recommend the:
-Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO # DM86VR.
This braking system is great because it is a one time setup, easy to use, effective system. Basically, whenever you're ready to hit the road, simply hitch your Jetta to your coach, and you're ready to go, the system will detect that it's hitched and be ready to use.
Finally, for a wiring kit, I recommend the Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154. This wiring kit includes everything you need to be able to connect your RV's turn signal, brake lights, and tail lights to your Jetta.
I have included a couple of videos for you to check out as well.
