The 1988 Layton travel trailer nearest the 17-foot size you mentioned is their 16-foot model M-1661.

The adhesive included in the etrailer kit # 344270KITW is not suitable for use on the rubber roof on your trailer. However we do offer part # 0160297, which is compatible with rubberized roofs. This white sealant remains flexible when cured; but it cannot be painted. It requires a standard caulk gun for application (available at any hardware or paint store).

When mounting your vents you will want to use as many fasteners as there are holes available for them in the vents you are using.

In most applications for mounting the metal vent flange to the roof you will want to use #8 x 3/4-inch slotted, hex-head, zinc-coated, sheet metal screws. The zinc coating helps prevent corrosion. Stainless steel screws are even better. For mounting the interior garnish (the trim ring) you can use four #8 x 3/4-inch slotted, round-head wood screws. These same wood screws can be used to mount the remote switch if your vent has a powered fan.

If the roof on your trailer is thick enough to require longer screws then you can source locally the required number of longer screws in the #8 size. You want to use a screw long enough to reach into the structural material under the trailer roof.

An alternative is to use vent install kit # CAM25013 from Camco. This too will work with a rubberized roof.
This kit includes 8-feet of white butyl rubber tape and mounting screws that measure 1-inch. This kit will be faster (no dry time required for the sealant) and more cost-effective than purchasing silicone sealant and hardware separately.
