Installing an Aftermarket Brake Controller on a 2011 Ram 2500 with Factory Brake Controller

Question:

Factory brake controller wont work correctly with electro hydralic brakes. I then bought a tekonsha p3 and went to dealer to disconnect factory controller. They said this is not possible to remove the code from the computer because it was factory installed and they have no way of removing this code. Is this correct or is there some way they dont know about thanks

There is a specific procedure that needs to be followed in order to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller in a 2011 Ram 2500 that came with a factory integrated brake controller.

To install an aftermarket brake control you will have to disconnect the ITBM (Integrated Trailer Brake Module), this will turn on a warning lamp, on the instrument cluster. In order to disconnect the ITBM and not get the warning lamp, your local Dodge dealer will have to reconfigure the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module), of the truck.

To disconnect the ITBM, you will need to contact Business Center to remove the sales code (XHC). The TIPM will need to be reconfigured. Once the sales code has been disabled you can disconnect the ITBM electrical connector, under the dash, without getting the warning lamp.

They are able to do it but whether they know how or not is another issue. Maybe a different dealer has better techs.
