Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch for a Magic Tilt Boat Trailer
Question:
Vehicles: 2022 Nissan Frontier Towing: Boat, motor, trailer Magic Tilt, 2014, batteries, fuel, etc. come in at 4900 lbs specs suggest weight distribution hitches for over 5000 lbs. The vehicle does have stability/sway control but I believe its electronic. The question I have is looking at the various options its hard to discern which is the best option for towing, backing up and launching the boat without having to remove stability bars from the hitch. I typically take the boat on a 1200 mile round trip during the summer so a weight distribution hitch seems to make some sense. If one of my options when filtering the search included backing up and launching a boat on a boat ramp, I could figure it out without a lot research.

For your Magic Tilt boat trailer I recommend the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control item # C17499. You will want to be more concerned with your trailer's tongue weight than maximum capacity when selecting a weight distribution hitch. Tongue weight is typically 10% -15% of your trailer's total weight. The TruTrack has a tongue weight range of 500 lbs - 800 lbs so this would be perfect for your needs.
The TruTrack helps prevent sway by friction in the Trunnion bars that help eliminate movement and keep your trailer in line instead of swerving dangerously. It also uses clamp-on brackets for easy install compared to other systems, and allows you to back up with the system on. The higher mounting of the trunnion bars over spring bar systems will leave you with plenty of clearance when backing down boat ramps.
Since your Magic Tilt boat trailer has a straight tongue you will also need the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems item # RP58393.
You will also need a hitch ball, depending on the size of your trailer's coupler, either the 2" Hitch Ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" Hitch Ball # 19286.
As far as your Nissan Frontier having built in electronic sway control you will need to confirm with your owner's manual on compatibility with a weight distribution system and whether or not you will need to make any adjustments. Some work well together. Others work in contradiction to each other and need to be turned off. Each system is different and can vary through different models.
