2018 VW Atlas 7-Pin Round Vehicle Connector and Brake Controller for Use w/ a 6-Way Adapter

Question:

I’ve got a 2018 VW Atlas with a 7-pin round connector see attached photo. I am in need of an adapter to create a 6-pin round and 4-pin flat hitch. Will the HM47570 be compatible with my make/model connector? Appreciate any insight!

Thanks for the picture! It looks like your 2018 VW Atlas has been wired for a 7-way and has everything but the actual 7-way connector. To use the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Trailer Connector Adapter - 7-Way to 6-Way, 5-Way or 4-Way item # HM47570 you will need the Hopkins Endurance Quick-Install 7-Way Trailer Connector item # HM40940. Both of these combined will give you a 6 pin round and a 4-pin flat connector. I have linked a review video that you will want to watch when connecting your trailer to the adapter. It will go over the required orientation of the 6-way so you can make sure your brakes don't lock up.

To control your trailer's brakes you will want the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller item # 90195. This is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer brakes in proportion to your Atlas' braking action. It automatically adjusts the trailer's braking based on deceleration of your vehicle. Since your vehicle came wired with a 7-way all you will need to complete your installation is the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers item # TK22FR.

Hello Jerred, I am in a similar situation. But what if you'd like to from what the Atlas has to the 4-pin falt connector? Best

@AlbertD If your Atlas only has the 4-way connector you will need the the Universal Installation Kit item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your vehicle with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on the vehicle's battery, the white wire to ground, and the yellow wire to vehicle's reverse circuit if applicable. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's accessory lights.
