A tankless water heater is a great idea to replace your older Atwood GC6AA, and the best option to do so is one from Furrion:

This tankless heater is going to provide you on-demand hot water and saves you a bundle of energy, because it only uses energy when you turn it on, as opposed to the constant energy output needed for water heaters with tanks.
The Furrion # FR48SR measures 12-5/8" tall x 12-5/8" wide x 19-1/4" deep, which you'll want to keep in mind to ensure it fits your current compartment. It should though, as it is very similar in size to your GC6AA which measures 12-1/2" tall x 16" wide x 18" deep.
The only other thing you'll need to do is open up the space for the access door a bit. Atwood heaters had uncommon 18" wide x 14" tall door sizes, and heaters today have larger doors, including the Furrion which has a door that measures 18" wide x 16" tall.
