Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch For A Travel Trailer With A Tongue Weight Between 450 And 575

Question:

Hello. First time asking a question. Wife and I are getting back into camping after many years off. When the boys were young we were towing with a minivan and pulling a small pop-up. Now have an f150 and looking to buy a TT. Retiring in 2 yrs so trying to save money where we can. I thought I could get the wdh installed myself and save money and then get our camper. Had a dealer price a blue ox sway pro 750 at $1140 installed. Found same hitch online at half that. Big savings for us as thats $ I can put towards the TT. Called blue ox and he said there are too many to choose from and wait until we by TT. TT we are looking at all have a tongue weight between 450lbs and 575lbs. Is it advisable to get the wdh before the TT is bought? very newby at all of this but trying to learn fast.

When it comes to adding a weight distribution hitch to your travel trailer I would recommend The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 8,000 pounds GTW, 800 pounds TW # FA92-00-0800.

When using a weight distribution hitch it is best to be as close as possible to your tongue weight. If you're higher or lower it could cause more sway and be more dangerous. This system has a no-drill, clamp on bracket system that can be adjusted along the trailer frame. It has a powder coated steel construction which is durable and corrosion resistant.

The weight distribution system has a tongue weight between 400 pounds to 800 pounds and has a gross towing weight up to 8,000 pounds. Using this system will evenly distribute the weight over your axles of the towed vehicle and trailer for stability and control. It also creates a level ride for both the towed vehicle and trailer.

Make sure to measure and find out what the proper tongue weight is for your trailer.

Everything is included with the system except The 2-5/16 inch Hitch Ball - 1-1/4 inch Diameter x 2-3/4 inch Long Shank - Chrome - 12,000 pounds # 19286. I also recommend The 1-7/8 inch Thin walled socket # EQ70-00-4800 which will help with hitch ball installation.
