Recommended Air Spring Suspension for a 2019 Ram 1500
Question:
I am towing a Keystone Passport 252RD trailer behind a 2019 Ram 1500 Bighorn/Lonestar. The trailer has a dry weight of 5555 pounds. The Ram can tow up to 11,610 pounds and has a 1,862 lb. payload rating. The dealer installed an EAZ-Lift Recurve R3 - 600lb. tongue weight WD hitch when we bought the camper. I had to make a few adjustments to get the sway under control, but it still feels like the weight is not distributed correctly the front tires dont always feel like I have good contact and the truck feels very bouncy on rougher roads. I have three questions: First, is a 600 lb. weight carrying/1500 lb WD rating correct for this application? Second, if I want to go to a higher weight rating, can I just get the higher rated spring bars, or would I have to buy a whole new hitch assembly? Finally, would a set of air helper springs/air bags or something else help to firm up the ride?

Thanks for the picture! It sounds like the dealer set you up pretty well with your weight distribution system. You're slightly overrated but I wouldn't go any higher. If you did change your weight distribution system you would need to upgrade the entire thing not just the spring bars. I do recommend adding air springs to your 2019 Ram 1500. An air bag system would address the bouncing feeling you are encountering and help the front wheels have better contact. I recommend the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs item # AL57375. These have a 5,000-lb weight capacity. They will level your Ram from front to back and can also adjust independently for side-to-side leveling of off-center loads.
I also recommend the Air Lift WirelessAIR Compressor System for Air Helper Springs item # AL74000EZ. Air Lift's premium, wireless, onboard compressor system with Bluetooth allows you to fill your air springs at the touch of a button. The WirelessAIR also automatically maintains pre-set air pressure levels.
