How to Determine Correct 5,200 lb or 6,000 lb Axle & Equivalent 8-14.5 Tire
Question:
Hello, I have a homemade trailer and it has 2 mobile home axles. On the front axle it says DEXTER 8-135. It has 5 lugs and 8-14.5 mobile home donut looking tire are mounted on it. the outer bearing says LM67048 and the inner bearing says 25580. On the rear hub it says DEXTER 8-188. It has electric brake and it has same size tires mounted than on the front. Are these 6,000 Lbs or 7,000 Lbs axles please? I am asking because i am shopping for replacing one of the axle. What is the equivalent size tire from a 8-14.5 mobile home tire?

Based on the bearings you gave, that is either a 5,200 lb or 6,000 lb axle, but it's not possible for me to know specifically, that's just the capacities of the hubs that have those bearings. Realistically, to get the exact capacity you'll need to contact Dexter with the serial number. After that, to get the right 5,200 lb or 6,00 lb axle you'll need to you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center.
For example, the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with E-Z Lube Spindles - 5,200 lbs # 8327816 is 86-1/2" hub-face-to-hub-face and 71-1/2" spring-center-to-spring-center while the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles - 6,000 lbs # e23GR is 89" hub-face-to-hub-face and 74" spring-center-to-spring-center. I have added a link below to our selection of trailer axles.
As for an 8-14.5 tire, they measure 27.7" in diameter and 8" wide; there isn't a perfect equivalent that exists, but something very close, a ST205/75R15 which is 27.1" diameter and 8" wide, the Westlake ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range D # LHWL300.
I've added a link below to our selection of ST205/75R15 tires and wheels.
