Can You Jump Off A Diode Wiring Kit To Install A 4-Pole Trailer Connector

Question:

Currently have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. No tow package installed. The Jeep is currently set up and used as toad/dingy with my MH. All works fine. I would like to add a 4pole plug to be able to plug in a add-on light bar for my bike rack. Since it is already wired for being towed, and has the proper diodes installed, I dont think plugandplay unit would work. Is there any reason I cant just install the 4 pole plug on the load side of the diodes? This way the power will come from either the jeep or the MH when towing?

No, you can not just jump off of the diode wiring kit to install a 4-pole flat on the back of your 2019 Jeep Cherokee. You'll need the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56406 which has a module that reads the signals passing through your Jeep's factory wiring and sends them through to the trailer via the 4-pole flat connector.

This module is fused to prevent any damage to you vehicle's wiring in the event of a short. Just jumping from the wiring after your diodes will leave all of your wiring unprotected and can cause an electrical fire in the event of a short.

Even if you used a plug and play diode kit you'd still be able to use the # C56406 and connect it in-line with the diode wiring. I've attached a video below where Dave will walk you through the installation of this wiring harness.
