Question:
Good afternoon, can a larger external gas tank be used for extending the run time of the generator?

No, per the manufacturer they do not recommend adding extended run-fuel tanks and caps to the already existing fuel system; doing so would be done at your own risk.
The Champion 5,000-Watt Inverter Generators w/ Parallel Kit # CH39FR does feature an economy mode that reduces engine noise and conserves fuel to increase run time.
