Trailer Hitch And Hitch Bike Rack For A 2012 BMW 335is Convertible

Question:

Hello, I am considering a bike rack for one or two electric bikes, which may each weigh as much as 80 lbs. A bike shop recommended a 1-1/4 inch hitch. I have a 2012 BMW 335is convertible. Looking online, some Curt hitches seem to only be for the BME 3-series sedans. Is there a hitch which will fit my convertible? A shop in Pittsburgh said a Stealth model would work, but Im afraid that they only considered the BMW 3-series in general and not the specific model I have. It is also quite low to the ground. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks for your help.

I do have a solution for you. The Stealth Hitches Hidden Rack Receiver - Custom Fit - 2". part # SH94VR, will fit your 2012 BMW 335is convertible. It is a 2" hitch receiver, which is necessary to carry e-bikes that weigh up to 80 lbs. This hitch receiver has a maximum tongue weight of 350 lbs. This is well under the weight of your two e-bikes and the hitch bike rack I am recommending. Please check your owner's manual. Your systems lowest maximum weight is the limiting factor, so this will not be a viable option if your vehicle's maximum tongue weight is at least 250 lbs.

My recommended hitch bike rack is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount, part # HLY84FR. This is a 2" hitch bike rack with a 80 lbs per bike weight limit. It comes with an anti-rattle hitch device to eliminate movement between the hitch receiver and the hitch bike rack. The rack can be tilted down, even carrying bikes on the rear of the vehicle.

I have included description links, a video of this rack being installed on a 2013 BMW 3 Series, and a video review link below.
