Trailer Running Lights Not Working After Installing Wiring Harness on a 2007 Nissan Xterra

Question:

installed new 4 wire harness to vehicle and no running lights ,but brake lights,turning signals and hazard lights work? this is the first time I have hooked to a trailer.

A lot depends on which wiring harness you installed and how your vehicle was equipped from the factory. For the 2007 Nissan Xterra, if it did not come with a 4-Way or 7-Way trailer connector from the factory then the vehicle will not have the relays needed to power the wiring harness.

Or if it does have the relays, or you bought a harness that came with the relays, like # C56225, then it is possible that you will need an additional relay in the in-cab fuse panel to power the running lights. This relay can be obtained from a Nissan dealer.

You can also check to see if the fuse is present or just bad by using the vehicle owners manual to find its location. There may also be locations listed for fuses related to tow package wiring that you can check.
