If your vehicle has the tow package then the Plug-N-Tow (TM) Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 40455, should be the correct part for your vehicle. If you have a connector in the proper place that usually indicates that there is a tow package setup on the vehicle. I spoke with my contact at Hopkins and can not find any information on a different plug on any of the Ford Escape vehicles. Be sure that you have removed the protective cap when testing for power to the factory connector.
Since you do not have power at the connector at the rear of the vehicle the tow package wiring must not have been complete from the factory so I think you will need to use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, item # 118426, to complete the wiring for your Escape.
