Recommended Flat Tow Set-Up for 2022 Ford Ranger Using Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO

Question:

Hello, I have recently purchased a new 2022 Ford Ranger to use as a towed vehicle with my motor home. For braking system, I would like to use the Stay in Play system but what happens to the new vehicle warranty when one splices into the vacuum system? If one ever has a problem with the brake system, could not the manufacturer Ford deny coverage because the system has been altered?

Your concerns are understood, but consumers of aftermarket products are protected by the Federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. This states that if something breaks on your vehicle and you take it in for warranty repair, the dealer must honor your warranty unless whatever modifications you have added to your vehicle are the actual cause of the issue. So, as long as all flat towing items are properly installed per the manufacturers instructions, no legal issues with warranty claim.

You need 5 basic components to flat tow a vehicle behind an RV, base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, wiring for indicator lights and supplemental braking. I recommend the following for your 2022 Ford Ranger:

- Base Plates, Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit, # RM-524459-5

- Tow Bar, Roadmaster Nighthawk All Terrain, Non-Binding Tow Bar, # RM-676 (this option includes needed safety cables)

- Wiring Solution, Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-152

- Supplemental Braking System, Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System, # DM86VR along with the Roadmaster Brake-Lite Relay Kit for Towed Vehicles, # RM-88400

Please note the linked installation videos below that I hope you find to be of value.
