Troubleshooting Brakes Lock Up at Low Speed With Curt Echo Brake Controller  

Question:

Having breaking problems with the Kurt 51180 I have tried all of the troubleshooting that I could find online I went back to the people I bought the RV from they switched out the controller at low speeds I barely hit the brakes when it gets to halfway the brakes just slam and lock up I dont know whats going on here and I am feel like I cannot drive my RV because of this thing it is unsafe

This does not sound like a problem with the Curt Echo # C51180. I would look at the trailer and the wiring. The first thing I would check is the 7-way connection. Make sure there is no corrosion present and clean as necessary. I would also check the trailer and brake ground connections. Make sure they are secure on a clean, bare metal surface.

It is also possible you have a short in the wire on the trailer side somewhere that is causing this or your brakes are not properly adjusted. If they have been adjusted recently it might have been overdone which would also cause this problem. There should only be a slight drag/resistance when the wheel turns.
