Parts Needed to Install Brake Controller In 2020 Ford Ranger with 4-Way
Question:
I am helping out my sister in law putting a receiver hitch, 7way plug and brake controller on her 2020 Ford Ranger. Her truck came with a flat trailer plug from the factory and no receiver. I am having difficulties understanding what i would need to do to install a break controller. As i dont have the truck in front of me it is hard to identify certain things. I have read some places that the 2020+ rangers have the wiring harness in place for a 7 way and I can just buy the plug in style that plugs into the factory harness. I believe this is accurate but would like to know for sure Is there a pigtail under the dash for the controller or blue/yellow wires or do i have to run my own? I have seen things saying all of these. I believe that Ford change things in 2020 from 2019 but would like to verify. Looking for advice as to what to purchase so that I can install this for her when she brings me the truck.

On a 2020 Ford Ranger that currently has a 4-way the kit you need to install a 7-way so you can install a brake controller is the Tekonsha part # 22124. This does tie into the brake controller wiring that is present under the dash and comes with everything you'd need with exception being the brake controller. The 4 trailer brake controller wires are sticking out of the large wire harness that goes through the driver's side firewall, left of the brake pedal, with shrink tubing on the ends that you mentioned.
This can be used to install a brake controller like the Brake EVN # TK63VR which works really well since it's a proportional brake controller and is also very reliable.
