Different Size Equalizers on Triple Axle Trailer

Question:

We bought a 2008 XLR fifth wheel toy hauler and after the fact noticed that the front tire spacings front to middle is different than middle to rear. I found the front Equalizer is different than the middle and rear. The middle and rear is an EQ-104. I cant get a number off the front but include pics of both. The hanger spacings are: Rear to #3 = 29 1/2inch #3 to #2 = 33inch #2 to front = 29 1/2 The axles all seem to be the same size measuring 26inch from center to center So the question, is this the factory or correct set up? Seems like they equalizers should all be the same. And if so what do i need to buy to correct this. Also the axles are 5200# I would like to get an extra to carry. Which one would be correct?

The equalizers on your triple axle setup will not be identical and there is nothing to worry about with your hanger spacing. However, since they appear to be worn it may be a good idea to go ahead and upgrade them. It looks like the Dexter E-Z Flex Suspension Kit - Double-Eye Springs - Triple Axle - 6,000 lbs # K71-656-00 is the closest match to what you have right now.

As you can see in the kit, and others like it, there is a difference between the two sets of equalizers. The shorter one for this upgrade kit has a length of 5-3/4" which matches your current EQ-104. The other measures 7-1/4" long from center hole to center hole. These also come with upgraded shackles and wetbolts, which would be a good idea as well based on the age of the trailer.

If nothing else I would at least upgrade the shackles and add wet bolts and bronze bushings using the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Triple Axle Trailers. The correct kit will depend on the length of your current shackles. For 2-1/4" shackles you would need the # MR86ZR and for 3-1/8" shackles the # MR26ZR.

For a replacement/spare axle you will need to measure your current axle to match the length. This is the hub face to hub face measurement. We have the following available for 5,200 lb axles:

-95" Long Dexter Axle # 6340624

-89" Long Dexter Axle # 8327820

-86-1/2" Long Dexter Axle # 8327816

If possible you want to match the spring seat measurement as well. If you can't, you can cut off the spring seats and weld on new ones using # TRSS300.

I have attached a review and installation video along with a helpful article on trailer suspension for your reference.
