Cargo Carrier Recommendation for a 2013 Nissan NV that will not Interfere with the Rear Doors

Question:

How can I mount this basket so I can fully open the rear doors of the panel van ? When I measure from the rear edge of the bumper to the edge of the rear door when it is at a 90 degree angle to the bumper. It measures 31 inches. It seems like I would need a tounge on the basket of 40 inches or more. The basket will have app. 250 lbs. in it. If can be done, what acc. do you suggest to stablize the load ?

Most cargo carriers will allow you to open the rear doors of your 2013 Nissan NV when they are empty. Keep in mind, the trailer hitch receiver sits below the bumper and the walls of most hitch mounted cargo carriers are typically no taller than about 6 inches.

The walls of the Curt 22-1/2x49 Cargo Carrier, # C18113, that you referenced has 4-3/4 inch tall walls, but if that is too high, then you could look into a cargo carrier like the Pro Series 20x48 Cargo Carrier, # 6502, that has 3 inch tall walls.

If you are wanting a cargo carrier that will allow you to open the rear doors when it is loaded, then, unfortunately, there is no option available at this time. Your best option in this case would be to tow a small utility trailer behind the NV. A 40 inch tongue, or shank, on a cargo carrier would greatly decrease the weight capacity to an impractical amount.
