I prefer the Strait-Line system, # RP66084, because the dual-cam sway control works best and there is much less metal on metal contact like there is with the Equal-i-Zer weight distribution systems. The Strait-Line systems dual-cam sway control forces the trailer and truck to ride in a straight line, stopping sway before it has a chance to start.

When choosing a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, loaded and ready to tow, plus the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.

Lets say that the trailer weighs 9,000 pounds and you will not be carrying anything behind the rear axle of the truck. At 9,000 pounds and for a typical tongue weight of 10 to 15 percent, the trailer tongue weight would be 900 to 1350 pounds. A system rated up 1,200 pounds would not be sufficient on the high end.

In that case I recommend a system rated for 800 to 1500 pounds, # RP66130. With this system you would also need a shank. I have linked the shanks that fit this system. Use the ball mount FAQ I have linked to determine the rise or drop you need.

And for either system, you will also need a ball. For the 1200 pound system you can use either 2 inch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286. And for the 1500 pound system you can use 2-5/16 inch ball # 63840.
