Troubleshooting If Axle Grease Is Getting Past Grease Seal When Filling EZ Lube Spindle

Question:

We bought a new 7x12 enclosed single axle trailer in May of 2021. Now were getting ready to take a long trip across country, so I looked under the rubber caps not bearing buddies on the axles and they looked dry at the outer end. So I started pumping grease into the grease fitting and pumped and pumped, waiting to see it come out the end. It never did. I finally stopped, afraid I had put too much into it, looked it up and found that it could squeezing it into the brake area. YIKES!! I see your statement on here sounding like maybe I was doing the right thing by pumping until comes out in front. Should I take the whole thing apart to see if the grease leaked into the brake area, or keep on pumping? I saw somewhere it could take 3/4 of a tube for each axle?

I recommend pulling the hub to determine if Grease # L11390 is getting past the Grease Seal # 58846. Once grease gets onto the brake pads they will have to be replaced. Its better to pull them to ensure the grease is going into the correct places rather than continuing to fill with grease only to find out the brakes are going to need to be replace. If you can send me your axle tag information I can verify what all parts your axle uses so you can have a spare set of parts in the event something breaks on your trip.
