What Typically Causes Weak Trailer Brakes

Question:

Hi, I have adjusted the P3 all they up to max / 14 level but my trailer tires will still not lock up at all. They are activating because I can feel the trailer braking, it just doesnt seem to be coming anywhere near a lockup situation. The trailer is a PJ 16foot single axle tilt with no load on it when calibrating. Thank you

Weak trailer brakes are typically caused by the brakes not being adjusted properly which you can check to see if they need to be adjusted tighter. You'd want to adjust them until there is a light drag on the wheel when turned by hand. Another possibility is that the brake output circuit is using too thin of wire which 10 gauge is the minimum for that like # 10-1-1. Or a grease seal could have blown and your drums now too slick to stop the trailer.
